The song itself is a whopping 20 minutes. CD also comes with karaoke track for shits and giggles. If you actually want to sing along, here’s the karaoke video or here’s some romaji lyrics. But pretty much, it’s just the one song. I actually first listened to this the day it was released, but I’ve been lazy to review it. In the time span of my laziness, there have also been quite a few people that posted their version of this song, but most of them are horrid so you can look for them yourself. If you notice the Amazon.jp reviews, the feedback have been mixed. Overall, the release is a bit of a disappointment. If you want to know what the original songs sound like with the original singers, there’s a video for that as well.
First of all, I’d like to say it’s no fault of the singers, who rocked with any and every song they were given. A few of them even slipped in Nico memes. On the other hand, it looks like Lantis doesn’t really get how to mix a song. All of the songs were organized by series, which makes the order a bit restricted. JAM is great, but 6 of their songs in a row can be over powering. They should have spread out the songs more, mixed elaborately. There should be more than enough Lantis songs for them not to have two songs from the same series/artist, let alone 3 or more.
I also noticed that there were a lot of pauses in between songs. The singing should have kept going. I think there was only one or two pauses in the Nico Nico Douga original, which made it so upbeat. This one had pauses every other song, practically.
If you compare this to the Lucky Star kumikyoku, this one still fails in comparison. Lucky Star has an excuse to have so many pauses because those tracks were BGM songs. Actually, taking that into consideration, there weren’t any pauses in the LS kumikyoku.
Overall, I wouldn’t really recommend buying the CD. But for the sake of the Nico Singers, it’s possible I might buy it… if it’s discounted.
In other Nico Singer news, Lantis is not done with these guys. There will be another Nico Singer release from Lantis on 4/9. This will be a cover album done by the Nico Singers of various Lantis songs. But really, this is all corporate exploitation of the Nico community, isn’t it? (Seriously now… even Caramelldansen got a re-release for chrissakes. Is that even legal!?)
I’m still confused if gazelle (ガゼル) was actually in this or not, despite the Lantis site not mentioning her name at all. Stop screwing with my mind, nico comments!
